Barriers for extreme conditions

Written by Bent Kr Hasle, October 2022

It’s a given that the equipment on the surface of the water must be of the best quality possible to meet these conditions.

The Aqua Guardian barriers are designed and produced to handle extreme conditions. Large seasonal variations in temperature, strong winds, flooding and other extreme weather types with large amounts of floating debris. Freezing of thick ice in combination with larger water level regulation up and down.

It’s a given that the equipment on the surface of the water must be of the best quality possible to meet these conditions. In addition to this, there are also high quality standards for the technical connection to shore, sea and river beds - and the same quality and competence requirements can also be expected for our operators and installing personnel. The total of this gives an installation that will perform optimal for years, while minimising the maintenance requirement.

The photos below show the dam Kilen in Øvre Sirdal. Here you can find a barrier of about 240 meters anchored against twelve anchor points under water and four anchor points on land. The barrier was installed during the autumn of 2017, and has endured all challenges present and is now preparing to freeze into the ice for the sixth winter in a row.
