Although barrier installations in hexagonal shape for a hydro power reservoir may appear identical on the surface, there are significant differences under water. The strength of such an installation lies beneath the water surface, and each individual installation is unique. This installation has a circumference of nearly 400 meters and is kept in position at all water levels by 48 anchorages. The purpose is to protect against dangerous currents during the summer months and unsafe ice conditions in the winter season.
The last installation in the mountains for the 2023 season was carried out at Mårvatn for Statkraft Energi, before winter again tightens its grip. This installation warns third parties of dangerous currents in summer and unsafe ice in winter. Designed by Vassfall, produced by Ovun AS and assembled by Ymas.
